About Us
MR working together since 2006
Working together since 2006~ Mandy Mascroft & Rex Amos are doing business as MR Performance Horses. They are dedicated to starting colts slowly from the ground up building a solid foundation that they will have for their owners in whichever discipline they choose. From trail riding, breaking race horses, pleasure, team penning, to barrel racing.... No matter what discipline you ride, you always need the building blocks of a foundation. Mandy & Rex like their colts to have soft mouths, good minds, and be able to use respond to their riders with weight movement and the slightest cues. Putting in long hours every day they are striving to bring a lot of positive experiences to the Equine Industry in the southeast and nationwide.

Mandy Mascroft Amos
Where to begin? Mandy grew up in MA, VT & upstate NY. Also known as Mandy Moulton, she went by her step fathers name a lot growing up. Mandy broke her first horse when she was ten years old. Her mom had picked up a little grade Appaloosa mare that was green broke, her name was Cherokee. Mandy trained that mare and used her to compete in team penning, speed shows, barrel racing, and so much more! She won numerous pay checks, trophies, and belt buckles. When she was too busy competing on other horses Cherokee was used by her sisters and brother and has continued to win with ANYONE put on her back. It was in those years Mandy developed her passion for horse, but maybe she was born with it.
Throughout school Mandy worked at a local tack/feed store, was breaking outside horses, and fixing problem horses on the side. She competed in Team Penning, Barrel Racing, Rodeos, and AQHA Shows. After high school she took a job in Saratoga at another store and from then she was introduced to the world of Race Horses. Starting at Stone Bridge farm in the spring of 2005 as a groom and exercise rider then relocating to Ocala in September of 2005. It was there she began the Thoroughbred breaking season working for Jimmy Miranda, owner of Rapid Run Farm. For three more years she sharpened her skills and learned about prepping the sales horses as yearlings and two year old in training.

Mandy started working at Glen Hill Farm in 2008. Glen Hill is a 400 Acre Thoroughbred Farm in Marion County. They are a Breeding & Racing operation that has about 25 broodmares and the horse population is usually around 100 head. She breaks the yearlings and then starts them galloping at the race track. Training them to breeze before they ship to the race track.
Recently Mandy has been employed with Stephens Thoroughbreds. She continues to break horses for the race track and get them prepared for the 2 year old in training sales.

One of her favorite ways to pass the time is interacting with Barrel racing horses. She has always trained her own horses and continues to do so, as well as welcoming outside horses too. She has competed successfully in NBHA, AQHA open shows, jackpots and rodeos and looks forward to getting more active in the Futurity Scene. Her first experience with the futurities was December of 2007 with Firewaters Fast Cash, placing 1D Top 10 in both of his Juvenile Futurities! From there she took him to a few more futurities, clocked in the 1D and really enjoyed it. He was the first colt she raised and trained specifically for barrels and knows there is many more to come. Be sure to check back for updates on MR Performance Horses next Futurity Prospects!
Rex Amos
Rex Amos moved to Ocala in the spring of 2004 for a working internship with McDuffee Quarter Horses, owned by Don & Brenda McDuffee. He was offered a job to come back and manage the farm after he graduated from Ohio State University. Managing the farm includes: foaling/delivering mares, breeding mares, standing and collecting stallions, caring/fitting the halter horses, sales prepping weanlings/yearlings, attending & assisting Don at the horse shows, and SO MUCH MORE!
Rex Amos was extremely busy in 2010 with MR Performance Horses! He stepped up to taking on riding all the training horses, managing a busy breeding/foaling operation, and doctoring his new fiance when she shattered her foot!! PHEW.... Needless to say Rex has been doing a SUPER job training ad starting several colts, tuning some barrel racing horses and even competing on Just Risk It.
2011 brought on an even busier year. McDuffee Quarter Horses is getting in more show horses, stallions to stand, and babies to break as well as MR Performance Horses expanding and buying their own farm. Rex Amos spends his free time working on the farm, mowing, being a blacksmith for our horses and clients horses, as well as riding and competing on his buckskin gelding, Cooke County Travlr.
